I just got this book and I’m so excited to try out some of these Eastern European recipes! Love the down-to-earth writing style, plus the bits of history, humor, and culture sprinkled throughout. This book is truly unique and makes for a wonderful gift for any foodie, culture enthusiast, or the unique person in your life.

I am Russian, and an extremely picky person. This cookbook is THE best English-language cookbook on modern Russian cooking. It eclipses all others you may know, with bright, enticing photographs, easy to follow instructions, and clear explanations for every single thing. The authors not only know and understand their history, but understand home cooking as well. Basically, think Julia Child, but for Russian cooking.
The only reason I can’t give 5 stars is because their designer and publisher skimped a bit on final layout details, but that is nothing at all compared to the wonderful content. I will be buying this as gifts and recommending to all my friends!!! Well done!

I love collecting cookbooks, not only for the recipes, but also for the interesting stories and bits of history they often come with. More Than Borsch really delivers in this department! As an immigrant from the former USSR, I’m very familiar with the foods of my childhood, but I was blown away by the history of the cuisine from both Russia and Ukraine and the specific bits of information on my beloved dishes. I appreciated the focus on Soviet foods, but there are also plenty of dishes that go further back than that. The writing style is light and witty in the historical and literature sections, and the recipes themselves are concise and easy to understand. Simply put, this book will make a great addition to any foodie’s collection, offers engaging content, and most importantly has mouth watering recipes that you can make today!

Such a great book! Not onky really beautiful recipes, but notes on cultural/historical context, and some food literature. Highly recommend!

This book is wonderful! I am reading it after I read a couple of other Russian cookbooks. This one has so much more information. I like the short tour of Russian history. I love the reproductions of Russian art. I like the photos of quintessential food. And I really appreciate that, while Russian history and food history is treated respectfully, it is not romanticized — no gushing over aristocratic dishes and traditions while we all know that serfs and workers were barely getting by. A huge Bol’shoe spasibo to the authors for a real labor of love

This seller went above and beyond to meet my needs. My mother is Russian and I bought her "More Than Borsch" for her upcoming birthday. The seller honored my request that she and her daughter/partner sign the cookbook and also write a quick note inside wishing my mother a happy birthday. She also included a Baba Yaga birthday card free of charge. This unexpected gift was greatly appreciated.
The seller is a fact shipper and the quality of the book exceeded my expectations. She responded to my messages quickly and she provided all the information I needed to place my order with confidence.

For those interested in the cuisine and history, I highly recommend this cookbook which is more than just a cookbook. It also has beautiful artwork and a history of Russia and the Ukraine, as well as other information such as the traditional holidays and excerpts from literature. I got a few extra copies of it which I gave as Christmas gifts. I have been telling others about it to spread the word.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Dasha!
